Chocolate Avocado Mousse

I used to be a huge fan of the Food Network and watched tons of their shows. Then we shifted the way we eat, and cancelled our cable and the programs fell by the wayside. I was recently visiting family in Seattle and watched a show called Chopped one night with them. I found myself getting hooked again, the sheer brilliance and creativity (not to mention time efficiency!) of the chefs participating was very inspiring. I have always been a fan of the black box challenge, what better way to let your creativity shine?

Inspired by the show, I created my own black box challenge for one night during our visit. We had been out all day, and I had neglected to pre-prepare something. At the last minute I came up with this super quick and easy Avocado Mousse recipe, and was really happy with the end result. It is rich and creamy, with a dark flavour that really lets the in this shine. It is choc full of healthy fats, and is a great choice for kids (we got multiple thumbs up from the little ones in attendance!).

I serving the Avocado Mousse with some Coconut Whipped Cream and a pinch of raw cacao (as pictured above).

Avocado Mousse


3 ripe avocados
¼ cup
¼ cup
Pinch sea salt
¼ cup maple syrup (adjust for personal preference)
1½ tsp vanilla extract


Slice avocados in half and scoop out fruit into a blender or food processor.
Add remaining ingredients and process until smooth.
Adjust flavouring as needed and serve!
